For most of my readers June is the start of summer. For us here in South Africa it is the start of the coldest weeks of the year. On the plus side the sun is always shining!
Our beautiful boy Bruno.
Weekends usually mean an extra dog or two....
....and always some bike riding!
Alaska spent the entire month of June in kennels (as of today, July 1st, she is in her 6th week of season and still there!). We visit as much as we can, often with her best buddy Jagger. The house is too quiet without her.
Waking Maria on these dark frigid school mornings is a challenge. Fortunately I have a willing assistant.
With the school year coming to an end we planned a fun "Teddy Bear Picnic" for Maria's EC (Pre-K & K) class.
Maria's "teddy bear" was an Enzo.
End of the year assembly with a fun teacher presentation!
More visits with Alaska.
Final wait for the bus! School ended June 8th.
On a tour of Ponte City and the Hillbrow neighborhood of Johnanesburg.
In the middle of the giant tower.
A tiara improves all crafts.
Jagger and I have therapy dog visits about twice/week. This one was at a dementia unit in North Pretoria.
Paolo and the children spent a Saturday visiting an orphanage in Bela Bela. Here they are on a lunch break on their way there.
And the next day Maria was invited by her best friend (Emilia on the left) to see Peppa Pig Live. A dream day for Maria!
Cold morning snuggles.
A sad day for us- opening our very last jar of our favorite USA brand of peanut butter. Boo hoo!
GDA pup Victor visiting for the day.
Alaska, week 4 of her season. Hurry up, girl!!
Most Fridays I bring back 7-8 Pretoria-based GDA pups for their weekends at home (all are in training so spend their weekdays at GDA).
A new swimsuit hand-me-down from good friend Wren.
It was a wonderful discovery to find these Peonies at Woolworths. My favorite flower of all time yet I have never seen them in South Africa since we arrived.
Peonies and warm chocolate chip cookies. Bliss.
June 24th Gio headed off for 2 weeks at Sugar Bay Camp north of Durban. We miss him so much!
The night before Gio left we went to see Incredibles 2. So fun!
First day at camp!
Maria in the bath expressing her fierce independence...
More camp photos...
On a tower of dog beds!
July returns to camp and then we head to Italy for nearly 4 weeks. We are ready for some warm weather!
