Italian Summer, part 2

Our three weeks in Italy were very relaxed. We were very sad to have to say goodbye to Papa but the kids and I managed to make it through the final two weeks without him.

Maria likes to start her mornings with Papa's coffee.
Yes, she really likes strong black coffee.  Weird, right?
We headed to Milan one morning in order to visit the South African Embassy.  Our 17-year-old cousin Matteo is traveling back with us to Pretoria so we needed to get some documents signed. (There are lots of restrictions for children traveling into and out of South Africa.)
While we were in Milan we decided to do a tiny bit of touring.  At Gio's insistence we ate lunch at McDonald's.  Seems very wrong to do that sort of thing when in Italy, no??
When we got back from Milan there was a package waiting for us from Uncle Tucker and Aunt Molly!  Tucker had found an original Henry dog on eBay just like the one he had as a child (and still has!).
Maria loves him.  What a perfect early birthday present.
We decided Henry was tired after such a long journey from Reno so he joined Maria for her nap.

The slightest drizzle means time for her pink boots- prized possessions!

I do love when I am busy cleaning up from dinner the kids disappear out back for some jumping!

Gio went to a local day camp for 2 weeks.  The camp bus picked him up at our local pizzeria.  So Italian!
While Gio is at camp Maria and I like to do errands.  On this day we headed to the gelato shop.  Okay, to tell you the truth, we do this every day!
Gelato chatting...

Almost.....
....gone!!!
Maria and I watched Michelle Obama's DNC speech together.
We went back-to-school shopping.  Maria insisted on wearing every item out of the shop.
My gardening assistant
Maria's all time favorite activity in Italy? Visiting the barber!
The Italian under-20 rugby team was practicing in Castelnovo ne' Monti this week.
Gio loved watching them practice;
Maria mostly just loved the snacks.

At the end of camp party for Gio Maria had quite a good time dancing.  I swear she did not have any wine!

Making an Angry Birds set while waiting for the school bus.
Shopping with these two is a challenge since I never have anywhere to put the food.
Final day by the pool.
The kids love the sand volleyball court at the pool.

Final product.
Last evening walk.

Final day in Italy and still in pjs at 11AM.  How will I get Gio to be ready for his 6:58 bus next week??
Gio's Italian gang.
And suddenly we were at the airport.  Matteo's mother Simona is one of Maria's favorite's of all time!
Here we go!  Ciao, Italia!
On the bus in Munich.
Relaxing before our overnight flight to Jo-burg.
Passed out.  Maria slept for 8 of the 11 hours of the flight.
Well done, sweet girl!
Home!!  We were so happy to be reunited with our furry boys.
