Dr. Maria
June has been a busy month with winter temps keeping us shivering at night. Gio graduated from 2nd grade, we took a ski trip in Lesotho and Jagger finally came home after 8 weeks of cage rest.
Those of you sweltering in summer temps may be a bit jealous of our chilly winter nights and mornings here. Bruno knows how to keep warm.
Despite the winter chill Jagger continues his hydrotherapy (in a heated pool!). He is up to 15 minutes on the underwater treadmill and 40 laps of the pool.
His motivation for doing all of those laps...a squeaky chicken!
We had a few extra puppies one weekend- two half sisters named Ilana & Serina and even Isaac stopped by. It was fun chaos.
Mealtime was amusing with the Lab puppies finishing their bowls ages before Bruno swallowed his last mouthful.
Serina was baffled that anyone could eat so slowly.
Post dinner snooze....
...before bedtime.
We were all madly in love with baby Serina.
World Bank Family Fun Day!
Serina was a huge hit.
Gio and his best buddy Nico enjoyed some sumo wrestling.
Gio defeated this girl....then she came back and knocked him out three times in a row!
Always be sure your hair clips match your snack.
A rare moment when I have Gio under my complete control.
Pepper has a new habit of sitting on my dinner plate. We all know not to mess with him... ever!
Dinnertime antics.
Our visiting puppy Ilana decided Maria's car seat was for her.
|
Guide Dog puppy pile!
Salt is healing nicely!
A visit with Jagger, still on crate rest.
Waiting for the bus on Gio's last day of 2nd grade!
To celebrate Gio's end of school year I took him on a horseback safari.
With our favorite zebra!
On our way back from the safari we stopped by to visit sweet Jagger. He is always extra excited when he sees Gio.
When your 3-year-old discovers a box of doughnuts on the table.
Off for 5 days to ski in Lesotho!
The hill (yes, man-made snow!)
Ski holidays must start with hot cocoa, of course.
In our chalet where the children spent most of their waking hours with Magnatiles. Nope, I did not pack lightly for this holiday!
Their favorite part? The destruction of the creations.
Ready to head off for the first morning of skiing!
Standing on snow (1) in Africa (2) in June. Both firsts for all of us!
Maria heads up the slope!
We were at Afriski during their first week of the season. Though that meant not a lot of man-made snow yet, it did mean we had the slope nearly to ourselves! Here is Gio (in yellow) all alone.
After a lot of hard work she was ready for cocoa! ---------
Day 2 of instruction...
----------------
Our 3rd day we had a power cut for much of the day (this is Africa, after all!). Before the generators could kick in Maria's instructor Luke had to carry her up the hill!
----------------
Gio heading down the mountain.
While we were away our dear Salt got extra special attention at Menlyn Kennels. I was glad someone else had to give him pills for a while. That is NOT easy!
On the drive back to Pretoria we went through a snow storm!
And look who we picked up on our way! Finally coming home after 8 weeks of crate rest.
Reunion.
Best friends together again.
When you leave your 3-year-old alone with your dog.
Morning snuggles.
Still perplexed by Bruno's slow eating habits!
Gio's Magna-tile tower.
Gio is heading to his first sleep-away camp on July 2nd. Pepper seems keen to go along.
I took Oscar on a Guide Dog trip to ride the Gautrain from Pretoria to Sandton and back.
Always time for kisses while you are waiting for a train.
Gio finally agreed to get his haircut before camp. I was thrilled.
Of course, he will do anything to get some screen time!
After.
